Experimental virtual reconstruction and restoration of a roman bronze vessel

A new paper has been published by our colleagues in the journal Cercetări Arheologice. Entitled “Virtual reconstruction and restoration of an uncommon bronze vessel from the Mălăiești Roman fort”, the paper discusses the differences and particularities of virtual reconstruction and virtual restoration with practical examples in the case of a rare military roman bronze vessel, found in the Mălăiești Roman fort. The paper also has a supplementary web page dedicated to all the research carried out for this object and also a section of virtual experience where the vessel can be interacted with in three different approaches.

The article discusses new emerging methods within the heritage science field such as data mining, big data analytics, pattern recognition, and multivariate analysis, along with some applications of these new trends in current research projects.

Science of the Future Workshop

Between the 8th and 9th of June 2022, our department participated in the “Science of the Future” event organized on the occasion of the “European Year of Youth” by the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitization along with the Ministry of Education. Our department was present at the workshop with various mobile equipment and performed several demonstrations for the young students that attended the workshop.

The 14th edition of the European Exhibition of Creativity and Innovation (EUROINVENT 2022)

Between the 26th and 28th of May 2022, our department participated in the 14th edition of the European Exhibition of Creativity and Innovation (EUROINVENT 2022) that took place in Iași. Our group won 2 Gold medals and 3 Silver medals for the patents and research projects presented.

Integrated multi-analytical study of a Roman bronze vessel

New paper in Journal of Ancient History and Archaeology that presents an integrated multi-analytical documentation of a bronze vessel discovered in a 2nd century Roman military fort from ancient Dacia.

New paper published in Applied Sciences

A new research paper has been published by CERTO on the materials and painting technique of several wall painting fragments found at the Roman baths from Alburnus Maior (Rosia Montana, Romania). The non-destructive multi-analytical approach employed allowed a qualitative characterization of the chemical and mineralogical composition of the pigments and plasters used as support.

restoration by optoelectronic techniques

We are a department within the National Institute for Research and Development for Optoelectronics INOE 2000. Our department carries out researches on advanced techniques for artwork restoration & conservation. Research activities are generated by the new demands from restorers and conservators practice. A significant experience was accumulated in multidisciplinary research projects, and a very special part of the experience and of the gained reputation raised up from various on site collaborations.

Important results were accumulated in laser cleaning, environment control and micro-climate monitoring, non-contact, non and micro-invasive investigation methods, remote fast response techniques for cultural heritage investigation, diagnosis, intervention.
