INOE-CERTO carries out researches on advanced techniques for artwork restoration & conservation. Department establishment and development are generated by the identifying of new research needs. Important results are accumulated in laser cleaning, particularly in high precision laser cleaning, environment control and microclimate monitoring, multispectral image analysis and image restoration by simulation. Progresses on coherent optical diagnosis techniques field are recently achieved.

This department coordinates or is partner in concrete collaborative projects of research in the field that pursue ambitious goals. A special attention is permanently spent for the results implementation and large scale dissemination towards SME’s, museums, art studios, research institutes, centres and groups. Its specialists are the authors of the first Eureka Project with Romanian coordination (E! 2094) and of the first COST Action promoted by Romania (G7), had been participants in one of the first two Romanian projects in CULTURE 2000 (Tradition and Postmodernity), co-author of the first Cultural Heritage Laboratory of the same European Program in Romania, are very active in different international competitions.

Between 2001 and 2004, the group activity was strictly evaluated for the "excellence" certification at national level, under the RELANSIN Research Program. CERTO successfully passed all evolutive stages and now has desired statute.

In 2002 - due to the performed quality of its work - CERTO crystallised a national thematic network that brings together more than 10 independent groups from prestigious universities, institutes of the Romanian Academy, national institutes of R&D.
